Description

An omega-3 triglyceride concentrate carrying 2,000 mg of combined EPA and DHA per serving, in the re-esterified triglyceride form rather than as ethyl esters, and IFOS tested for purity. Two grams of actives is roughly six or seven standard softgels’ worth, which is the whole reason a concentrate exists. The TOTOX oxidation figure and the heavy metal panel for your lot are both on the certificate, not paraphrased on the label.

What is in the serving

Actives 2,000 mg of EPA plus DHA per serving, listed separately
Form re-esterified omega-3 triglyceride, not ethyl ester
Purity IFOS tested
Oxidation peroxide, anisidine and TOTOX published per lot
Metals mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, dioxins and PCBs screened
For scale an unconcentrated 1,000 mg softgel holds about 300 mg combined
Price basis per gram of EPA plus DHA, printed under the price

What re-esterified omega-3 triglyceride actually means

Concentration is a three step business. The natural oil is converted to ethyl esters, the esters are separated and enriched, and the enriched fatty acids are then either sold as esters or reattached to a glycerol backbone. That last step is the re-esterification, it costs money, and it is the difference between the two concentrate types on the market.

Both forms are sold at the same stated milligrams of EPA and DHA, so a label that omits the form has left out the part that explains a price difference. Published absorption comparisons between the two have generally measured higher uptake from the triglyceride form, particularly when taken without a fatty meal. That describes those studies and makes no claim about this bottle.

Why concentration changes the arithmetic

At 300 mg of actives a softgel, reaching 2 grams takes six or seven capsules a day and a bottle of 120 lasts under three weeks. At this concentration the same intake is one serving. Capsule count per serving and servings per bottle are printed next to each other for that reason, because a cheap bottle that empties in eighteen days is not cheap.

What the omega-3 triglyceride literature measured

Across the published work, doses of 1 to 4 grams a day of combined EPA and DHA were administered, with endpoints including fasting triglyceride concentrations, red cell fatty acid content, inflammatory markers and, in the long cardiovascular outcome trials, event rates over several years. Those are the amounts given and the measurements taken in the literature. None of it is a claim about this product.

Reading an omega-3 triglyceride label against an ethyl ester one

Two bottles, both stating 2,000 mg of EPA and DHA, at noticeably different prices. The cheaper is usually an ethyl ester concentrate and the dearer an omega-3 triglyceride. Neither label is dishonest. They describe different molecules carrying the same fatty acids, and a form statement is the only way to tell them apart. Where a bottle gives none, ethyl ester is the safe assumption, because a manufacturer who paid for re-esterification generally says so on the front panel.

The practical difference appears when a capsule is taken without food. Absorption studies comparing the two forms measured higher uptake from the omega-3 triglyceride form in that situation. That describes those measurements and makes no claim about this bottle.

Freshness, measured rather than asserted

An omega-3 triglyceride concentrate has more double bonds per gram than an unconcentrated oil, which makes oxidation the central quality question rather than a footnote. Peroxide value, anisidine value and TOTOX are published for every lot against the industry limit of 26, and a lot over it is withdrawn. Our certificate guide explains those three lines in plain terms.

The IFOS line, and what it covers

IFOS is a third party programme that tests marine oils against potency, purity and oxidation criteria, and the input to this listing states this oil is IFOS tested. A programme certificate and a per lot assay answer slightly different questions, which is why we publish both rather than treating a seal as the end of the matter. Our piece on four seals on a supplement label works through the distinction.

Testing

Every lot goes to a laboratory with no ownership link to this business for EPA and DHA assay, oxidation parameters, heavy metals, dioxins, PCBs and microbials, and failing lots are withdrawn with the report left published. The concentrates sit beside the liquids and the algal oils on the omega and fats page, and the NIH omega-3 fact sheet is the free reference worth reading first.
