Description
Choriogonadotropin alfa, 250 micrograms per 0.5 mL in a single-dose prefilled syringe, produced by recombinant DNA technology in a Chinese hamster ovary cell line and held as a reference material. It is an approved product in the United States and is not a controlled substance. Refrigerated storage. Research use only, not for human consumption, adults 21 and over, with purchase restrictions by state.

This is a glycoprotein, not a small molecule, and that changes what the paperwork can say. Purity for a protein is a statement about the protein population, not a single chromatographic peak with a clean mass underneath it.
Catalogued in the ancillary compounds, alongside the rest of the anabolics reference stock.
Micrograms against units: why choriogonadotropin alfa is labelled differently
Urine-derived chorionic gonadotropin is labelled in USP units, which are defined by a bioassay against a reference preparation. The recombinant product is labelled by mass, in micrograms. Those two scales are not interconvertible by arithmetic, and treating a microgram figure as if it were a unit figure is the single most common error people make across these listings.
Structurally the molecule is a heterodimer of an alpha and a beta subunit, heavily glycosylated, with the glycosylation pattern depending on the expression system. That is why the cell line is named on the label: for a glycoprotein, the host is part of the specification.
Cost per microgram
250 micrograms is a quarter of a milligram. At $145 the syringe works out at $0.58 per microgram, or around $580 per milligram, which is an ordinary number for a recombinant glycoprotein and an absurd one next to a steroid ester. The per-milligram convention still gets printed, with the caveat attached.
Price per milligram beats the price on the bottle covers the comparison, and it is also where we note the cases in which the metric stops being informative.
United States regulatory status
choriogonadotropin alfa is an approved product in the United States and is not a controlled substance. Nothing about being on this shelf changes that, and nothing about that approval makes this syringe a medicine: it is reference stock, sold as such, and not supplied for administration to anyone. Approval records and labelling are published through the FDA’s drug approvals and databases and DailyMed.
The assay, and the lots that fail it
Every lot of choriogonadotropin alfa is assayed before it is listed. HPLC returns purity as a percentage of total peak area, mass spectrometry confirms identity against the expected mass, and residual solvents are reported in parts per million. A lot assaying below its stated milligram content is withdrawn from sale, and its certificate stays on the results page with the rest of them, because a results page carrying nothing but passes tells you nothing about the ones that did not pass. The figure published is the figure the assay returned, not a rounded version of it.
Why we publish the batch that failed is the longer version of that argument, and our certificate guide covers the fields.
Packaging notes
We ship choriogonadotropin alfa in the original sealed container with the lot number legible. We do not decant, relabel or combine lots, because a reference material whose lot cannot be named is no longer a reference material. The listing for choriogonadotropin alfa states the storage conditions and the stability window we are willing to stand behind. Nothing is supplied in unmarked packaging, and we will not omit the compound name from a label or a customs declaration.
Declined on request
No quantities, no protocols, no sequencing, no potency rankings, no physiological description of choriogonadotropin alfa. If you ask us by email, the answer is the same as the answer on the page, which is that we do not supply it.
Keeping choriogonadotropin alfa to specifications is what makes the specifications worth anything. Research use only is not a legal strategy, and the FDA has said so in writing explains how the agency reads pages that go further, and the FDA’s drug information section holds the source documents.
Research use only, not for human consumption, adults 21 and over, with purchase restrictions by state. Where a state excludes this compound the listing says so before checkout rather than after it. Nothing on this page is offered as a drug, a supplement or a food. The certificate for the lot you receive, and the certificates for the lots we withdrew, are on the lab results page.
