Description
MCT oil c8 means caprylic acid and nothing else: no capric acid at C10, no lauric at C12, 500 ml in the bottle at about 7 cents a millilitre. The fatty acid profile for the lot is published, so the purity figure on this MCT oil c8 is a measurement rather than an assertion. That matters because the term MCT covers four different chain lengths and the market uses it loosely.
The numbers on the bottle
| Fatty acid | caprylic acid, C8, as the only component |
|---|---|
| C10 content | none cut in, with the profile published |
| C12 content | none, which separates it from coconut oil |
| Volume | 500 ml, about 7 cents a millilitre |
| Verification | full fatty acid profile on the lot sheet |
| Source | fractionated from coconut or palm kernel oil |
| Format | liquid oil, neutral in flavour |
Why mct oil c8 is not the same as coconut oil
Coconut oil is roughly half lauric acid, which is C12 and behaves metabolically more like a long chain fat than a medium chain one, despite being counted as an MCT in older nomenclature. A product sold as MCT oil without a profile can be mostly C12, or a C8 and C10 blend in any proportion.
Price follows chain length, because fractionating pure C8 out of the mixture costs more than selling the mixture. So a cheap bottle labelled MCT and an expensive bottle labelled C8 are usually different products rather than different margins, and the profile on the certificate is the only way to tell from outside.
What the ketone studies measured with mct oil c8
Published work has given single doses in the range of 10 to 30 grams, roughly a tablespoon upward, and measured blood beta-hydroxybutyrate concentrations over the following hours, with C8 producing higher readings than C10 or C12 at matched weights.
Those studies describe a measured metabolic response to an administered dose. They are not a claim about this bottle, and nothing on this page suggests an outcome. If you want the regulatory framing on how these products are classified, the FDA dietary supplement pages set it out.
How an mct oil c8 bottle is actually used
A tablespoon is 15 ml, so a 500 ml bottle is about 33 of them. Most of it goes into coffee, smoothies and salad dressings, and the neutral flavour is why it disappears into all three. Pouring by eye rather than measuring is how a bottle empties faster than the arithmetic suggests.
Priced by the millilitre, an mct oil c8 bottle is simple to compare against a C8 and C10 blend or against a powder, which carries a quarter to a third of its weight as carrier. The per unit figures sit under every price here so that comparison does not need a calculator.
Shelf life, and why mct oil c8 attacks plastic
Saturated medium chain fats are more stable than polyunsaturated ones, so an mct oil c8 bottle does not go rancid the way a fish oil does, and the peroxide figure on the certificate confirms it. Keep it out of direct sunlight anyway.
It is also a solvent for some plastics, so it belongs in glass or in a container rated for it. Pouring it into a thin disposable cup is a mistake people make once. That is a practical note rather than a safety warning.
The tolerance problem nobody mentions
Medium chain triglycerides at a full tablespoon on an empty stomach commonly cause cramping and urgent trips to the bathroom, and it is the single most frequent complaint about the category. Starting at a teaspoon with food and building up over a fortnight is what the tolerance literature describes. Nobody puts that on a front label because it does not sell a bottle.
Heat, and what not to do with it
It has a low smoke point for a cooking oil, so it belongs in coffee, dressings and smoothies rather than a hot pan. It also dissolves polystyrene, which is worth knowing before you pour it into a foam cup.
Testing
Every lot is analysed for its full fatty acid profile by an independent laboratory, with peroxide value, heavy metals and microbials on the same report. Lots carrying C10 or C12 above the specification are withdrawn, since a purity claim that is only usually true is not a purity claim. The rest of the oils sit on the omega and fats page, and your certificate is linked above and archived on lab results.

Solid. Slightly gritty when mixed but dissolves if you wait.

Third time reordering. Consistent batch to batch, which is the whole point.

The price per milligram made the comparison obvious. Switched from a pricier brand.
