The phenylpropionate carries an aromatic ring, which the decanoate does not. That shows up in the ultraviolet trace and makes the two esters of nandrolone phenylpropionate easy to tell apart chromatographically.

Nandrolone phenylpropionate against the decanoate
Both esters sit on the same 19-nortestosterone skeleton at about 274.4. The phenylpropionate adds a three carbon chain terminating in a benzene ring, giving roughly 406.6, so the parent steroid is about 68 percent of the labelled mass. The decanoate’s ten carbon chain gives 428.6 and a parent fraction near 64 percent.
Chain length and aromaticity change lipophilicity and the rate at which the ester bond hydrolyses. Those are physicochemical properties of the molecule, and they are the reason the two esters exist as separate products rather than as variants of one another.

No nandrolone product is currently approved for human use in the United States. The new drug application for nandrolone decanoate injection was withdrawn on 19 December 2024, and the former phenylpropionate product was discontinued decades earlier, so neither ester has a marketed approved equivalent. What the certificate of analysis covers
Two separate questions get answered on the certificate, and they are easy to confuse. Purity is reported by HPLC as a percentage of total peak area, which is a statement about the chromatogram: one large peak, and whatever else the detector saw.
