Description
Dutasteride capsules at 0.5 mg per soft gelatin capsule, bottles of 30, 15 mg in total. Dutasteride is a dual type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor and a 4-azasteroid, approved and marketed generically in the United States, and it is not a controlled substance. Research use only, not for human consumption, adults 21 and over, with purchase restrictions by state.

A soft capsule holds the compound dissolved or dispersed in a lipid fill rather than compressed as a powder. For assay work that means the shell has to be opened and the fill extracted, and the method on the certificate says so.
Look for dutasteride capsules in the ancillary shelf, one shelf down from the anabolics index.
Fifteen milligrams in the bottle
0.5 mg per capsule times 30 capsules is 15 mg. At $26 that is about $1.73 per milligram. Half-milligram units cannot produce a low per-milligram figure, because what you are paying for is thirty encapsulation events and the content uniformity testing that goes with them.
Why price per milligram beats the price on the bottle makes the case for printing the figure anyway, including on listings where it reads badly for us.
Dutasteride capsules: a fluorinated 4-azasteroid
Dutasteride is a 4-azasteroid, meaning a nitrogen replaces carbon 4 in the A ring, carrying an amide link to a bis-trifluoromethyl phenyl group. Molecular mass is about 528.5, high for this shelf, and the six fluorine atoms make the molecule both very lipophilic and very easy to identify by mass spectrometry.
The published literature describes inhibition of both type I and type II isoforms of 5-alpha-reductase, which is the structural difference from the type II selective compound two listings over. That is enzymology from in-vitro work and it is not a statement about dutasteride capsules.
United States regulatory status
Dutasteride is approved in the United States, available from generic manufacturers, and not listed on any controlled substance schedule. The ancillary compounds here are consistently in that position, which is a fact about regulatory status and nothing more. The approval record is published through the FDA’s drug approvals and databases, with product labelling indexed at DailyMed.
Packaging notes
We ship dutasteride capsules in the original sealed container with the lot number legible. We do not decant, relabel or combine lots, because a reference material whose lot cannot be named is no longer a reference material. The listing for dutasteride capsules states the storage conditions and the stability window we are willing to stand behind. Nothing is supplied in unmarked packaging, and we will not omit the compound name from a label or a customs declaration.
Testing on this lot
Purity for dutasteride capsules is measured by HPLC and published as the percentage of total peak area the expected compound accounts for. Identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry, which is a different claim: it says this molecule has the mass the structure predicts, and a pure sample of the wrong molecule would fail there rather than on purity. Residual solvent is given in parts per million. System suitability and the reference standard used are named on the report, because a purity figure without a method behind it is a number somebody typed.
The same two tests run on every lot of dutasteride capsules that we list. How to read a certificate of analysis and check the lab before you check the numbers both apply to the document on this page.
Questions we decline
The question people actually want answered about dutasteride capsules is what it does and how much. We do not answer it, in copy or by email, and a research-use-only sentence at the bottom of a page that answered it would be decoration.
So the listing for this item stays with the things that are verifiable: content per unit, purity, identity, solvent residue, lot number, where the item can ship. Our article on research use only explains why that line is a description of a sales channel rather than a legal shield, and the FDA’s drug pages hold the agency’s position in its own words.
Research use only. Not for human consumption. Purchase is restricted to adults 21 and over and to jurisdictions where this compound is lawful, the listing states where it cannot ship, and checkout enforces it. Nothing here is a drug, a dietary supplement or a food. Certificates for current and past lots, including the ones that failed, are on the lab results page.
