Description

A 90 gram jar of instant coffee blended with lion’s mane, chaga, reishi and cordyceps, thirty servings. There is no cannabidiol in this one. Mushroom coffee powder is the format where blend totals do the most damage, so the grams each species contributes are printed on the label rather than summed into a single mushroom figure.

What is in a jar of mushroom coffee powder

Four species named individually with their own weights, the part of the organism used, and the extract ratio for each.

  • Mushroom coffee powder: 90 g jar, 30 servings
  • Species: lion’s mane, chaga, reishi and cordyceps, each stated in grams
  • Material: fruiting body extract, stated per species
  • Coffee: instant, with caffeine present as in any coffee
  • Cannabinoids: none, there is no CBD in this product
  • Price: $45 a jar, with the per serving figure on the listing

Caffeine, which is doing the obvious work

A cup of instant coffee carries something in the region of 60 to 80 mg of caffeine depending on how heaped the spoon is, and that is the compound with a noticeable effect in a mug of mushroom coffee powder. It is stated on the label rather than left to be assumed. The mushroom fraction is measured in hundreds of milligrams of extract per serving, which is a quantity you would not notice by taste and should not expect to notice otherwise. Reference figures on caffeine come from the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements.

Fruiting body against mycelium on grain

This is the detail that separates a real extract from an expensive bag of grain. The fruiting body is the mushroom itself. Mycelium on grain is the root structure grown out on rice or oats and sold with the substrate still in it, which inflates weight and dilutes the active fraction. A mushroom coffee powder made from fruiting body extract costs more and the label says which it is, as does every listing in the mushroom range.

Why the extract ratio on mushroom coffee powder decides what a gram means

A 10:1 extract means ten kilos of raw material went into one kilo of powder, so a gram of 10:1 is not comparable with a gram of whole ground mushroom. Hot water extraction pulls the beta-glucans. Alcohol extraction pulls the triterpenes, which is what reishi is usually bought for. Dual extraction does both and the method is named. Beta-glucan percentage is published where the supplier tests for it, and polysaccharide percentage is flagged as weaker because it counts substrate starch.

Testing

Every lot of this mushroom coffee powder is tested by an outside laboratory for identity, heavy metals and microbials, with the results published. Identity testing matters because species substitution is documented and a powder cannot be identified by eye, and on a four species blend there are four identities to confirm. Heavy metals matter because fungi concentrate what is in their substrate. Lots failing either are withdrawn and the certificates stay on the results page, as this note explains.

What the published research measured

Each species has its own small literature at its own doses. Lion’s mane human trials have typically used 1,000 mg to 3,000 mg a day of extract over weeks. Cordyceps work in exercise contexts has used figures in a similar range. Reishi research is largely preclinical with a smaller clinical record often using 1,500 mg or more. Chaga has very little human work at all. Those are descriptions of what published studies administered rather than claims about this jar, and no trial has tested this four species combination as a product.

These are food grade extracts sold by weight, nothing here is a controlled substance and none of it contains psilocybin. Keep the jar sealed and dry, because extract powders take up moisture and cake, and a caked scoop is no longer the stated serving. The certificate for the current lot is linked here.
