Description

A 4.5 ounce cold process CBD bar soap with 150 mg of cannabidiol isolate in it, made with colloidal oatmeal and honey and no palm oil. Cold process means the oils and lye saponify slowly at low temperature rather than being cooked, which keeps the glycerin in the bar. The oatmeal is ground fine enough to be felt rather than seen.

What is in the bar

Everything, named. A soap is a short ingredient list by nature and there is nothing to gain from hiding any of it.

  • CBD bar soap: 150 mg of isolate per bar
  • Net weight: 4.5 oz, about 128 g. Concentration: roughly 1.2 mg per gram
  • Oils: olive, coconut and shea. No palm oil
  • Additions: colloidal oatmeal, honey. Fragrance: none added
  • Spectrum: isolate, THC non detect on the certificate
  • Price: $14 a bar, with the price per milligram printed under it

Being honest about 150 mg in a cbd bar soap

A CBD bar soap is on skin for perhaps a minute and then goes down the drain, so the milligram figure here means less than it would in a balm that stays put. A hundred and fifty milligrams across a 128 gram bar is a little over 1 mg per gram, and the proportion of that reaching anything is not a number anybody can honestly give you. The price per milligram is still printed, because you should know what you paid. The rest of the bath and body range states net weight in grams next to milligrams for exactly this reason.

What the bar is actually for

Washing. It is also, at fourteen dollars, the cheapest way to see how this company tests and prices things before committing to a fifty dollar jar. Cold process bars last longer in a dish than melt and pour ones and they soften if they sit in standing water, so a draining dish matters more than anything on the label. Palm oil free means the hardness comes from coconut and shea instead, which gives a slightly softer bar and a creamier lather.

Cold process, and what it changes

Cold process soap hardens over four to six weeks after it is cut, which is why the bars are firm and why they last. Melt and pour bases are faster to make and softer in a dish. The glycerin that saponification produces stays in a cold process bar rather than being pulled out and sold separately, which is most of the reason this CBD bar soap feels less stripping than a commercial bar. Honey is in there as a humectant. Colloidal oatmeal is ground to a flour so it does not scratch.

Testing a soap

Each batch of CBD bar soap is assayed by a laboratory with no ownership tie to us for cannabinoid content, heavy metals and microbials. Potency is the awkward measurement on a saponified product, because the matrix is alkaline and difficult, so the certificate states the method as well as the figure. Bars coming in under their printed milligrams are withdrawn and the report stays published next to the passing ones. Reading the units on the metals panel is the part people get wrong, which is the subject of heavy metals in hemp.

Is there any literature on this

On cannabidiol in a rinse off cleanser, no. The published topical work describes creams, gels and patches at stated milligram per gram concentrations left on skin, mostly in cell culture or animal models, with a small number of human studies. Nothing in that literature transfers to a bar of soap, and a figure from a leave on gel says nothing about a sixty second wash. Colloidal oatmeal, separately, is a recognised skin protectant ingredient in the regulator’s own monograph system, and the framework for that is published by the Food and Drug Administration. Describing where evidence exists and where it stops is not a claim about this bar.
